CARPET
THE CHALLENGE
Every year, nearly 2 million tons of carpet waste are generated in the EU alone. The majority of this ends up in landfills or is incinerated.
THE SOLUTION
An increasing number of second-life products are being developed from carpet waste. However, the key challenge lies in closing the gap between disposal and manufacturing.
Our team provides cost-effective waste management solutions tailored to the cruise and hospitality industries.
MATTRESSES
THE CHALLENGE
Approximately 30 million mattresses are discarded annually in Europe, most of which end up in landfills or incineration facilities — an extraordinarily high figure.
If stacked, the mattresses would reach almost 700 times the height of the tallest mountain on Earth.
THE SOLUTION
Our team provides smart, efficient solutions for mattress waste management in the cruise and hospitality industries.
With our mobile system, mattress waste is sorted directly on-site, significantly reducing costs compared to traditional disposal methods.
We reduce mattress volume by up to 90% and transform the recovered materials into new products at our recycling facility in Spain.
A sustainable cycle is closed.
CURTAINS
THE CHALLEGE
In the European Union, the hospitality and cruise industries generate substantial textile waste during renovations and refurbishments. Household textiles—which include items like bed linens, towels, and curtains—account for approximately 6.1 kg per person annually, totaling around 2.7 million tones across the EU in 2020.
A significant portion of these textiles, including curtains, are discarded during periodic updates in hotels and cruise ships. Unfortunately, much of this waste ends up in landfills or is incinerated again, contributing to environmental degradation and the loss of valuable materials.
THE SOLUTION
At Green Guard Underlay, we provide sustainable solutions for managing textile waste from hotels and cruise ships, with a particular focus on recycling discarded curtains. Our specialized recycling process involves collecting these curtains directly from establishments, sorting them by fabric type, and transforming them into high-quality recycled wadding. This wadding is then utilized for flooring.
By implementing this process, we not only divert significant amounts of textile waste from landfills but also reduce the demand for virgin materials, promoting a circular economy within the hospitality industry.
